JavaZone 2010 - Basic Memory Troubleshooting
About this time last year we discovered that we had a memory problem in our application. None of us knew the first thing about memory issues, so I got the case just because I was the one who discovered it. This is the story of my venture into the world of memory troubleshooting.
This is a basic and practical talk for those of you who haven't dealt with memory issues before. I will demonstrate tools that you can use to gather and analyze data. You will also learn some of the most important things to know about garbage collection and memory management.
After this talk you should be able to go ahead and start troubleshooting your own memory problems. You could also use this as a primer if you want to go to more advanced talks on memory management.
