JavaZone 2010 - Practical use of Scala Actors

Telecom services are in general based on event driven archictectures. With the introduction of Scala and Actors on the JVM platform, everyone developing concurrent systems has a new tool. The Actor model where introduced in 1973 and made famous by Erlang and Ericssons Telecom systems, and now finally available on the JVM.
The presentation is an experience report based on implementation of a conference solution for video conferencing. The project started out in april 2008, switched to Scala and Actors in December 2009 and launched in june 2010. During the talk the main drivers for the architecture, how Scala and Actors are used and our experiences so far will be presented.
